If your family like home made burgers, why not surprise them with Lamb Burgers for a change.

You might also enjoy Beef Burgers and Garlic Bread.

Lamb burgers are very easy to make and because lamb mince is readily available at most supermarkets and butchers, you’ll have them prepared and ready for cooking in less than ten minutes!

This recipe should make around 10 burgers – depending on how big and thick you make them.

Lamb Burgers

Here goes:

Lamb Burgers – Ingredients

  • 1 pound / 500g minced lamb
  • 1 egg
  • 1 garlic glove, crushed
  • Good handful of fresh bread crumbs
  • 1 or 2 sprigs of fresh Rosemary, chopped (or a teaspoon of dried)
  • 2 table spoons Dijon mustard (or coarse grain if you prefer)

Lamb Burgers – Method

  1. First thing – put on disposable gloves – this is going to be messy
  2. Put all ingredients in a bowl
  3. Mix together using your hands
  4. Make mixture into burger shapes
  5. Cook on the BBQ, under the grill or shallow fry – you can even cook them in the oven

Serving Suggestions

Serve in a burger bun with any of the following:-

  • Sliced Tomatoes
  • Sliced Cucumber
  • Sliced Beetroot (an Aussie favourite)
  • Sliced tinned Pineapple (well drained)
  • Sliced Avocado (spread if very soft)
  • Lettuce leaves
  • Sliced cheese of your choice
  • Fried onions
  • Caramelised onions
  • Your choice of mustard
  • Mint sauce (the jellied kind spreads well)
  • Mayonnaise

The list is almost endless.  I’m sure you can think of other yummy favourites to add to your lamb burgers.

Handy Tips and Variations

  • Using disposable gloves to do the mixing is the best tip I can give you
  • You can make regular burgers by using beef mince rather than lamb mince and omitting the rosemary
  • You can add a finely chopped onion if you wish – or grate it if your eyes can stand it!
  • I like to serve everything on a big serving platter in the centre of the table and let everybody create their own lamb burgers
  • The burger buns are extra nice if lightly toasted
  • Try pita bread rather than burger buns for a change

Hi Jan, what a great idea. I love the thought of having lamb hamburgers for a barby. Would they be called lamburgers?

  2. Lamburgers – I like that 🙂
    Thanks for comment Leo

    Hello Jan,
They look so yummy and sound so easy to make. Hubby loves Lamb and Burgers so making a Lamb Burger would be great for him. I love how you share easy dinners as in our household we need something that taste good, looks great, is healthy and so easy to make!

    cheers
    Lisa

  4. I don’t think I’ve ever tried Lamb Burgers. And I just went ahead and bought some beef mince today, so looks like I’ve missed the boat on this for a few weeks (we freeze the mince for future use). Mint sauce sounds like an interesting addition, giving the burger a truly lamb feel.

    Hi Jan

Thanks for the simple recipe! Just a question – With the fresh bread crumbs, do you mean just breaking up some crumbs from a fresh loaf of bread? What size should they be?

  6. Hi Lina – thanks for your comment.
The word ‘bread crumbs’ in the post links to another post on making bread crumbs. But just quickly, I save all unwanted bread crusts in the freezer, then when I have a decent amount I defrost them, put them in the whizzer (aka food processor) and make them into bread crumbs – the more you whizz, the finer they get. They shouldn’t be too big or too small – somewhere in between is just perfect 🙂 I then put them in a plastic bag in the freezer and they are ready to use whenever I need them. Hope this helps … and let me know if you try the Lamb Burgers 🙂
